Wearables, Humans, and Things as a Single Ecosystem!

Nahum Gershon

When I use my smart watch to track the steps I walk, it takes sometimes a few minutes for the watch to show the number of steps I took. Naturally, I would have enjoyed seeing the step counter being updated simultaneously as I walk. This would be also my wish with my smart phone that also gives me delayed observations when I climb floors. After climbing a few floors, for example, it would indicate one floor only after a few minutes. Then, two floors after some more time, and sometimes three after a few more minutes...

Real Time Health – How IoT will Reinvent Medicine

Pasi Hurri

Many industries, such as banking, retail and entertainment have recently transformed into real time services, being globally accessible around the clock. Money transfer takes less than a second, and your favorite movie plays in two while you're commuting. Now, with IoT, this transformation will also happen, probably even faster, in the physical world. Everything can be converted into continuously evolving services. It is mostly our traditions and habits that are in the way.

What Makes IoT Different to the Regulator?

Andy Haire

This second of four articles, drawn from the lens of an Authority's mandate, addresses the policy issues that could become part of their thinking – a departure from typical articles whose focus is on interoperability or devices. Parenthetically, Authority, is used loosely: it means anyone or any organization in a position to impose rules or laws on marketplace behavior – generally parts of governments such as legislatures, competition authorities or sector regulators.

Powering IoT Devices: Technologies and Opportunities

Andrey Somov and Raffaele Giaffreda

Internet of Things (IoT) devices are supposed to be deployed 'everywhere' and to be accessed 'any time' from 'anywhere'. A high number of these devices perform monitoring and control tasks in the smart-x applications and difficult-to-access areas. For successful realization of these applications an IoT device should be tiny and autonomous de-facto while including sensing/actuating, processing and wireless communications capabilities.
