Why Businesses Need Partnerships to Realize IoT Potential

Chris Moorhead

The Internet of Things (IoT) is having a transformational effect in business and in consumers’ lives. Organizations are using IoT devices to uncover inefficiencies and cut costs or to collect and monetize data about the way customers use their products. For consumers, devices like smart speakers in their kitchens make daily tasks easier and more convenient, while things like connected LED lightbulbs or car entertainment systems can personalize experiences.

When IoT Meets Agriculture: The Story of AGRIOT LAB Technology-Transfer Initiative

Raffaele Giaffreda

It is no question that meeting Sustainable Development Goals will be more and more the focus of the coming years. Within these expected targets, precision agriculture is set to play an important role: climate change will be putting more strains on our hydrogeological system; this in conjunction with increasing demands for food will require particular attention dedicated to the efficient use of agricultural resources, especially irrigation water.

Article 3Deployment of Sound Sensor in Smart Nation Projects

Thi Ngoc Tho Nguyen, Furi Andi Karnapi, and Woon-Seng Gan

According to a study on smart cities by Juniper Research and Intel, Singapore is ranked first among the top 20 global smart cities in 2017, ahead of other big cities such as London, New York, and San Francisco. The Global Smart City Performance Index measures how technology used in smart city saves time for its citizens and improves their life quality. Singapore topped the charts in all four measured areas - mobility, healthcare, public safety, and productivity, largely thanks to its Smart Nation initiative, which aims to harness digital technologies to make Singapore not only an economically competitive city but also a liveable home for its people.

Article 4IoT of Inequality: How NOT to Deal with the Topic of Digitalization

Vivart Kapoor

Once a shepherd had two horses, one was reliable and fast, and another one was slow and weak. The shepherd instead of looking after the weak one and trying to make him fit, he preferred riding the healthy one and taking him almost everywhere. He also fed him better which in long-term led the healthy horse to become heavy and feel lethargic all the time. Later the healthy one became sick and the shepherd then instead of having healthy horse has to deal with two ill and weak horses.
